Air Force PT test FAQ
How is the Air Force PT test scored?
The Air Force PFA gives you a composite score out of 100 from four components: cardio (up to 50 points), body composition (up to 20), upper body (up to 15), and core (up to 15). You need a total of 75 or higher, plus the minimum in every non-exempt component, to pass. 90 or above is rated Excellent. Air Force PT Companion calculates all of this live as you enter your numbers.
What exercises are on the Air Force PT test?
You pick an exercise for each component. Cardio: the 2-mile run or the 20-meter HAMR shuttle run, with a 2-km walk alternate for those who qualify. Upper body: 1-minute push-ups or 2-minute hand-release push-ups. Core: 1-minute sit-ups, 2-minute cross-leg reverse crunch, or the forearm plank. Body composition uses your waist-to-height ratio (or you may be exempt). The app scores every one of these options.
What score do you need to pass the Air Force PT test?
A composite of 75 or higher passes, as long as you also meet the minimum standard in each component you're tested on. Below 75, or failing any single component, is an unsatisfactory result. Scores of 90 and above are rated Excellent.
What are the 2026 Air Force PT standards?
Scoring follows DAFMAN 36-2905, using the charts updated 24 March 2026, which added the 2-mile run as a cardio option. Point values are based on your age group and gender, and Air Force PT Companion uses these exact official charts.
Are Air Force PT standards different for men and women?
Yes. Every component's standards are set by both age group and gender, so the required reps, run times, and thresholds differ. The app applies the correct chart for your age and gender automatically.
Is there an Air Force PT calculator app?
Yes. Air Force PT Companion is a free iOS and Android app that calculates your PFA score, runs a fully-timed mock test with real HAMR audio, and includes training programs. It works offline with no account. Get the app.
